Mulsum

Der Gedenkort in Mulsum ist noch nicht erstellt worden. In Mulsum wurde am
20. April 1945 ein KZ- Transport von britischen Fliegern angegriffen, die den Zug für einen Militärtransport hielten. Die KZ-Häftlinge gehörten zum KZ Neuengamme und dessen verschiedener Aussenlager. Im Zuge der Todesmärsche gelangten sie in das Kriegsgefangenenlager dem Stalag X B in Sandbostel. In der Nacht zum 20. April 1945 kam es dort zu einer Hungerrevolte. Der Aufstand wurde von den Wachmännern blutig niedergeschlagen. In der Nacht ließ man alle marschfähigen Häftlinge antreten und sie mussten zu Fuß nach Bremervörde zum Bahnhof laufen. Dort ging es mit dem Zug weiter in Richtung Stade. Auf Höhe des Mulsumer Bahnhofes wurde der Zug aus der Luft angegriffen.
Insgesamt verstarben 12 KZ-Häftlinge sowie mehrere Bewacher.
Namentlich bekannt sind von den Häftlingen lediglich Moritz Hugo Kalthoff und
Armand Schumacher. Kalthoff stammt aus Bassenthal. Er wurde am 10. Mai 1904 geboren. Schumacher wurde am 5. Mai 1925 geboren.
Als Gedenkort wünschen wir uns den Bahnhof. Die Bahnstrecke soll eventuell wieder befahren werden. Die Anträge laufen derzeit. Sollte es zu einem positiven Ergebnis kommen, muss der Bahnhof neugestaltet werden und der Gedenkort wird gleichzeitig entstehen. Sollte es nicht dazu kommen, werden wir eine passende Alternative finden.
So lange wird der Gedenkstein und die Infotafel, die in Zusammenarbeit mit
Dr. Hellwinkel von der Gedenkstätte Lager Sandbostel erstellt wurde, noch eingelagert.

The memorial site in Mulsum has not yet been created. In Mulsum on
20th April in 1945 a concentration camp transport was attacked by British airmen who mistook the train for a military transport. The concentration camp prisoners belonged to the Neuengamme concentration camp and its various subcamps. In the course of the death marches, they ended up in the POW camp of Stalag X B in Sandbostel. On the night of April 20th 1945, was a hunger revolt there. The uprising was bloodily suppressed by the guards. At night, all prisoners capable of marching had to take part to walk to Bremervörde to the train station. There they continued by train in the direction of Stade. At the height of Mulsum station, the train was attacked from the air.
A total of 12 concentration camp prisoners and several guards died.
Of the prisoners, only Moritz Hugo Kalthoff and Armand Schumacher are known by name. Kalthoff comes from Bassenthal. He was born on May 10th 1904. Schumacher was born on May 5th 1925.
We would like to see the train station as a place of remembrance. The railway line may be used again. Applications are currently ongoing. If there is a positive result, the station will have to be redesigned and the memorial site will be built at the same time. If this does not happen, we will find a suitable alternative.
Meanwhile the memorial stone and the information board, which was created in cooperation with Dr. Hellwinkel by the Sandbostel Camp Memorial, will be stored.
